If you’ve browsed through real estate listings either online or in those colorful magazines, or perhaps have reviewed websites for home construction in Vancouver, you’ve likely seen houses marked with the moniker “Luxury Home”.  Perhaps you were intrigued enough to stop and look at just what made that home special enough to earn that title.

Once you perused the specifications and all the details, you might have agreed with the lister’s assessment…or you might not have agreed. The word “luxury” certainly means something different to everyone.

However, though there isn’t a stock list of items that make a home luxurious, there are a number of factors that are usually specific to luxury home construction in Vancouver and elsewhere. Some are easier to pinpoint than others.

Price

If you know your area well, you’ll be able to tell which prices might indicate whether or not a house would fall into the “luxury” category. For example, a million dollar home in Vancouver will likely be quite impressive, but if you had a million to spend in New York City, you might only get a two-bedroom apartment or an old brownstone that needs some attention. So, as such, you’ll find that price isn’t the only determination.

High Quality

This is a biggie! Those who want to build a luxury home are usually concerned about what sorts of materials are used in construction, both inside and outside the house. “Only the best” is often the mantra for the owner of a luxury home. That might mean a beautiful all-brick exterior or perhaps Italian marble in the bathrooms. It may indicate the highest-priced granite or quartz in the kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances as well. Luxury might mean gold fixtures in the bathrooms, deep soaking tubs, and deluxe rain showers with multiple heads and a sauna, too. And perhaps some crystal chandeliers in the dining room and entryway!

Luxury Amenities

Many luxury homes include rooms and other features that you wouldn’t find in a “normal” home. Perhaps the choice for your luxury home would be a dedicated game room for the kids or maybe a movie theater for the entire family. And how about an amazing backyard with a pool and a summer kitchen, game courts, and more? Or maybe a music room with a grand piano and a top-of-the-line sound system? The possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination and your budget, of course.

Location

If you’re considering custom home construction in Vancouver and have your eye on a luxury floor plan with amazing amenities, you’ll also want to make sure that the home is located in a place where there are similar homes or where your new home will retain its value. So, you need to be sure you’ve got a prime location, whether that means a huge lot with few neighbors out in the suburbs or in a rural area, a hilltop overlooking your favorite town, or a prime area right in the middle of the bustling city. Check with a realtor or your builder about home prices in your preferred areas.

Indeed, everyone’s idea of a luxury home is a little different, but it all starts with a dream and a master plan. Talk with your builder about your wishes and wants and – together – you can begin the luxury homebuilding process.
